This game is super old, starting way back in 1897! It began with teams in one part of Australia called Victoria. Over time, more and more teams joined, and the game got so popular that it spread to other states. In 1990, it became the Australian Football League, showing it was for the whole country! It's like when your favorite toy gets so popular that everyone wants to play with it.

Some teams are like the champions of this game, winning the biggest prize, called the premiership, lots of times! Teams like Carlton, Collingwood, and Essendon have won it 16 times each – that's a lot of trophies! The team that wins the Grand Final, the very last game of the year, gets to hold up the premiership cup and wear a special flag. It's the ultimate prize for these amazing athletes!

In the AFL, there are 18 teams, and they all play a big season from March to September. The teams with the most wins get to play in special playoff games called finals. The very best two teams then play in the Grand Final, which is usually held in a giant stadium in Melbourne. It's a thrilling end to a long season, where one team becomes the ultimate champion!
