Where is the Land of the Future?

Astana is the super-duper capital city of a country called Kazakhstan. It sits in the northern part of this big country, right next to a river named the Ishim. Think of it like a special city that belongs to itself, even though it's in a bigger area called Akmola Region. It's a place where important decisions are made for the whole country!

A City That Changed Its Name!

This city has had many names! It started as Aqmoly way back in 1830. Then it was called Akmolinsk, Tselinograd, and Aqmola. Finally, in 1998, it became Astana, which means 'capital city' in the Kazakh language. For a little while, it was even called Nur-Sultan, but now it's Astana again! It's like picking your favorite name for a toy!

Buildings That Touch the Sky!

Astana is famous for its super modern and futuristic buildings. One of the most famous is the Baiterek tower, which looks like a giant lollipop and is a symbol of Kazakhstan's independence. There's also the Khan Shatyr, a huge tent-shaped shopping mall that's taller than many houses stacked up! These buildings make Astana look like a city from a science fiction movie.

Fun Things to Do and See!

Astana has lots of fun places. You can visit the Astana Opera to see amazing shows or explore the National Museum to learn about Kazakhstan's history. There are also big parks like Presidential Park where you can run and play. The city even hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games, showing everyone how great it is at putting on big events!
