President John F. Kennedy was riding in a special car with his wife, Jacqueline, on a beautiful day in Dallas, Texas. It was November 22, 1963. People were waving and cheering for him! But suddenly, something very sad and scary happened. Shots were fired, and the president was hurt. It was a moment that made many people feel very sad.
A Sad Surprise
The president's car quickly drove to a hospital called Parkland Memorial. Doctors tried their very best to help him, but sadly, President Kennedy passed away. It was a big shock to everyone. The person who shot the president was named Lee Harvey Oswald. He was caught later that day. It was a very confusing and upsetting time for the whole country.

President Kennedy was like the captain of a big ship, the United States. He was known for being inspiring and for wanting to make the country a better place. He was the 35th president. He was also the fourth president to be assassinated, which means he was killed while in office. This event made people think a lot about safety and how important leaders are.

After President Kennedy was gone, the Vice President, Lyndon B. Johnson, became the new president very quickly. The man accused of shooting the president, Lee Harvey Oswald, was also shot and killed a couple of days later by another man named Jack Ruby. So many surprising and sad things happened in just a few days!
