Ash Carter: A Man Who Helped Protect Our Country!

Imagine a very smart person who loved science and helping people. That was Ash Carter! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1954. He was like a super-brainy detective for the country, figuring out how to keep everyone safe. He even became the boss of all the people who protect the United States, called the Secretary of Defense. That's a really big job!

Before he was in charge of protecting the country, Ash Carter was a scientist who studied tiny things called atoms. But he realized he could use his smarts to help people in a different way. He started working for the government, helping make important decisions. He worked his way up, learning more and more, until he was chosen for one of the most important jobs in the whole country!

One of the coolest things Ash Carter did was make sure everyone who wanted to be a soldier could try, no matter what. He ended a rule that stopped some people from joining. He also said that women could do any job in the military if they were strong and smart enough. This was a huge change, like opening up all the playground equipment to everyone!

Because Ash Carter was so good at his job and helped keep the country safe, he got lots of special awards. He received five big medals for his amazing work! He also wrote many books and articles about science and keeping countries safe. Even after he was gone, he was given a very special award called the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Wow!
