Key Facts
Meet the Mighty Moon Rocket!
Imagine a rocket taller than a skyscraper, that's Apollo 11! It was made of three main parts. The biggest part was the Saturn V rocket, which was like the super-strong engine that pushed everything up into space. Then there was the Command Module, where the astronauts lived and traveled. And finally, the Lunar Module, which was like a special little house that landed on the Moon!
A Giant Leap for Humankind!
Apollo 11 wasn't just any trip; it was a super important mission! Before this, people only dreamed of going to the Moon. This mission proved that humans could actually travel to another planet and land there. It was a huge moment for science and for everyone on Earth, showing us that we can achieve amazing things when we work together.
How They Flew to the Moon!
Getting to the Moon was a big adventure! The Saturn V rocket fired up its engines with a HUGE roar, making the ground shake. It blasted the spaceship into space. Then, the astronauts traveled for about three days to reach the Moon. The Lunar Module separated and gently landed on the dusty surface, while the Command Module stayed in orbit around the Moon.
First Steps on the Moon!
On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong took the very first step onto the Moon. He said, 'That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.' Buzz Aldrin joined him soon after. They planted an American flag, collected moon rocks, and bounced around in the Moon's low gravity, which made them feel super light, like they could jump really high!
