Anubis

Imagine a super important god from ancient Egypt! Anubis looks like a person but has the head of a jackal, a wild dog. He was like the ancient Egyptian's guide for the dead. When someone passed away, Anubis was there to help them on their journey to the afterlife. He was a very respected god, and people believed he made sure everything was fair when judging souls.

Anubis had a very special and serious job. He was in charge of mummification, which is how ancient Egyptians preserved bodies so they could go to the afterlife. He also helped weigh the heart of the person who had died against a feather.

If the heart was lighter than the feather, it meant they were good and could go to the afterlife. If it was heavier, a monster would eat it! Anubis made sure this important test was done right.

Anubis is easy to spot because of his cool jackal head! Jackals are animals that often scavenged around cemeteries in ancient Egypt, which is probably why they linked them to the afterlife. Sometimes Anubis is shown as a full jackal, but usually, he's a man with a black jackal head. His black color wasn't scary; it represented the fertile soil of the Nile River, which meant rebirth and new life.

Anubis was a super important god for ancient Egyptians because they believed in an afterlife. He was like the gatekeeper and guide. He would lead people through the underworld and help them face the 'Weighing of the Heart' ceremony. His role showed how much they cared about what happened after death and how they wanted to ensure a safe and fair journey for everyone.
