American Bullfrog

The American bullfrog is the biggest frog in North America! Imagine a frog as long as a ruler, that's how big they can get. They have bumpy green or brown skin that helps them hide in the water and on land. Their powerful legs are perfect for jumping far and swimming fast. They have big, bulging eyes that help them see everything around them, even in the dark!

These big frogs love to live in watery places like ponds, lakes, and slow-moving rivers. You can find them all over the eastern United States and parts of Canada. They like to hide among plants near the water's edge, waiting for a tasty snack to hop by. Sometimes, they even dig burrows to stay safe and warm during cold weather.

American bullfrogs are super hungry and eat a lot of different things! They are carnivores, which means they only eat meat. Their favorite foods include insects, worms, and smaller frogs. But if they get a chance, they might also gobble up small fish, snakes, and even baby birds! They catch their food with their long, sticky tongues that shoot out super fast.

Male bullfrogs have a very loud and deep croak that sounds like a bull's bellow, which is how they got their name! They use their booming voices to attract female frogs during mating season. It's like they are singing their hearts out to find a friend. These frogs can live for about 8 to 10 years in the wild, if they are lucky and stay safe from hungry predators.
