Where the Giant Sleeps!

The Alborz Mountains are like a huge, bumpy backbone for northern Iran. They hug the southern edge of the Caspian Sea, which is like a giant blue lake. These mountains stretch a super long way, from near a country called Azerbaijan all the way to the northeast. They are part of an even bigger mountain family called the Alpide belt, which is like a giant necklace of mountains around the world!

Tallest Peak in the Land!

The most famous part of the Alborz is the Central Alborz. Here you'll find Mount Damavand, the highest mountain in all of Iran! It's so tall, it's like stacking 15 Eiffel Towers on top of each other. This amazing mountain is even a volcano, though it hasn't erupted in a very, very long time. It's a truly spectacular sight!

A Home for Many!

Even though mountains can seem wild and empty, people have lived near the Alborz for a long, long time. They build villages and towns in the valleys and on the lower slopes. The mountains provide water and shelter, and the land can be used for farming. It's a special place where nature and people share the land.

What's So Special About Them?

The Alborz Mountains are super important because they act like a giant wall. They help keep the weather from the Caspian Sea from going too far south. This means the land on the other side of the mountains is often much drier. They also give us amazing views and are home to unique plants and animals that have adapted to living high up!
