Giants of the Savanna!

Imagine an animal so big it's like a walking, talking building! That's the African bush elephant. They are the largest animals that walk on land. Their bodies are covered in thick, wrinkly grey skin that helps them stay cool. They have enormous ears, bigger than dinner plates, which they flap to fan themselves. And their super-long trunks can pick up tiny leaves or even a whole tree branch!

What's for Dinner?

These gentle giants are herbivores, which means they only eat plants. They munch on grasses, leaves, and bark all day long. An adult elephant can eat as much as 150 kilograms of food every single day โ€“ that's like eating 1,500 apples! They also need to drink lots of water, about 230 liters, which is like filling up 115 big soda bottles!

Family Time and Big Tusks!

African bush elephants live in families called herds, usually with moms and their babies. The grown-up boy elephants often like to hang out by themselves or with their buddies. Both boy and girl elephants have tusks, which are like long, curved teeth made of ivory. They use their tusks to dig for water, move logs, and sometimes even to protect themselves.

Super Strong and Smart!

These elephants are super smart and have amazing memories. They can remember where to find water and food even after many years. Sadly, these wonderful animals are in danger because people sometimes hunt them for their ivory tusks. It's important to protect them so they can keep roaming the African plains for a long, long time.
