Key Facts
Who Was Aaron?
Imagine you have a big brother who's really good at talking for you. That was Aaron! He was the older brother of Moses, a very important leader.
Aaron was an Israelite, which means he was part of a special group of people. He wasn't just Moses's brother; he was also a prophet, which means he spoke messages from God, and he became the very first High Priest for his people. All the stories about Aaron come from old, special books like the Bible.
Aaron's Big Job!
While Moses grew up in a fancy palace in Egypt, Aaron stayed with his family. When Moses had to talk to the powerful Egyptian king about freeing his people, Aaron was his voice! Aaron was super important because he was chosen to be the first High Priest.
This was a special job, like being the head of a very important team. He and his sons after him were the only ones who could do this special job for their people, the Israelites. It was a big responsibility!
A Special Family Role
Being the High Priest meant Aaron had a very important role. He was like the main helper for God's people. The special rules given to Moses said that Aaron and his male family members would always be priests.
This means that for a very, very long time, people who were priests had to be able to say, 'Aaron is my great-great-great-great-grandpa!' It's like a special family tradition that lasted for ages, all starting with Aaron.
Saying Goodbye to Aaron
Aaron lived a very long life! The stories say he was 123 years old when he passed away. He died on a mountain called Mount Hor.
This happened after the Israelites had been traveling for 40 years, which is a really, really long time, like going to school for 10 years straight! It was a significant moment for his people as they continued their journey. His memory and his role as the first High Priest were very important.
