The 2022 Commonwealth Games were like a giant, exciting sports festival! Athletes from countries that are part of the Commonwealth, which is like a big club of nations, came together to show off their amazing skills. It happened in a city called Birmingham in England. Think of it as a huge party where everyone cheers for their favorite sports stars!

Who's Playing and What's Happening?

Over 4,800 athletes, including many who compete in special events for athletes with disabilities, traveled to Birmingham. They competed in 19 different sports! This was super special because it was the first big sports event where there were more games for girls and women than for boys and men. How cool is that? There were also lots of sports for athletes with disabilities, more than ever before!

Who Won the Shiny Medals?

Australia was the super champion, winning the most gold medals and the most medals overall! The home team, England, came in a very close second. Canada also did a fantastic job, grabbing lots of medals. It was also a historic moment for Niue, a small island nation, because they won their very first medal ever at the Commonwealth Games. Everyone celebrated their wins!

A Special Time for Everyone

These Games were extra special because they happened just before Queen Elizabeth II passed away. It was the last big Commonwealth Games she saw. The Games were a big deal for Birmingham and the United Kingdom, bringing in lots of money and excitement. It shows how sports can bring people together from all around the world for fun and friendly competition.
