Key Facts
The Big Race Across the USA!
In 1984, the United States held a super important election, like a big game to pick the country's top boss, the President! It was a race between two main teams. One team had President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George H.
W. Bush. The other team had Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro.
People all over the country voted for who they wanted to lead them for the next four years. It was a very exciting time!
Who Were the Star Players?
President Reagan was like a popular captain, and people liked his ideas about making the country strong and happy. His teammate was Vice President Bush. They were running against Walter Mondale, who had been Vice President before.
His teammate was Geraldine Ferraro, and she was super special because she was the first woman ever to be on a big team's ticket to become President or Vice President! That was a huge deal!
How the Game Ended!
When all the votes were counted, President Reagan and Vice President Bush won by a LOT! It was like scoring way more points than the other team. They won in almost every state, which is called a 'landslide' victory. They got 49 out of 50 states! Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro only won in a few places. It showed that most people wanted Reagan and Bush to stay in charge.
Why This Election Was So Cool!
This election was super memorable because it was such a big win for President Reagan. He was 73 years old, which was very old for someone running for President back then! Also, Geraldine Ferraro made history as the first woman on a major party's ticket. It showed that even though one team won by a lot, there were still amazing firsts happening in this big national race!
