The Awesome 1870s!

A decade is like a special box holding 10 whole years! The 1870s box started on January 1, 1870, and ended on December 31, 1879. It was a time when many exciting things were happening all over the world, like building new countries and inventing amazing gadgets!

In some places, big countries were getting even bigger, like giant empires! In America, people were still figuring things out after a big war called the Civil War. But guess what? Germany became a brand new country called the German Empire! It was like a new kid joining the playground!

The 1870s were super cool for inventors! They invented the phonograph, which could play music, and the telephone, so people could talk to each other from far away. They even invented the electric light bulb, which made nights much brighter! These were like magic tricks back then!

Sometimes, people who worked in factories wanted better pay or safer places to work. So, they started forming groups called labor unions. It was like a team working together to ask for what they needed. Sometimes, they even stopped working for a little while to show they were serious!
