Hello, Moon Explorer!

Imagine a robot that looks a bit like a little car, but instead of driving on roads, it drives on the MOON! That's Yutu! Yutu means 'Jade Rabbit' in Chinese, and it was sent to the Moon as part of a big space adventure called Chang'e 3. It landed on the Moon in 2013 and was supposed to explore for only a little while, but it ended up staying much, much longer!

Yutu's Big Trip!

Yutu was launched all the way from Earth on a giant rocket. After a few days, it safely landed on the Moon's dusty surface. It was like the first time a new toy was unwrapped! Yutu was special because it was one of the first robots to drive on the Moon in a very long time. It got to see amazing moon rocks and craters up close.

Yutu's Super Powers!

Yutu had special wheels that helped it drive over the bumpy moon ground. It also had cameras to take pictures and tools to learn about the Moon's soil. Even though it was a robot, it had to be tough! It survived cold moon nights and hot moon days. It even traveled a distance of 114 meters, which is about the length of a school bus!

Yutu's Amazing Story!

Yutu was supposed to work for just three months, but it kept going and going! It explored for over two years, which is super long for a space robot. It sent back lots of cool information about the Moon. Even when it couldn't move anymore, it kept its cameras on to share more discoveries. Yutu became a record-holder for being on the Moon the longest!
