Yuriko, Princess Mikasa

Imagine a princess named Yuriko! She was born a long, long time ago, in 1923. That's even before your grandparents were born!

Princess Yuriko was married to Prince Mikasa, and together they were part of Japan's royal family. She was like a special aunt to the Emperor of Japan, who is like the king. She was the oldest person in the whole royal family before she passed away in 2024, living to be over 100 years old!

Princess Yuriko was married to Prince Takahito. He was the son of Emperor Taishō. This made Princess Yuriko the daughter-in-law of an Emperor!

She was also the wife of a Prince. This means she was a Princess by marriage. She was related to the current Emperor Naruhito, making her his great-aunt by marriage.

She saw many, many changes in Japan during her long life, from when she was a little girl to when she was a very old lady.

Princess Yuriko was special for a few big reasons. First, she lived for an amazing 101 years! That's longer than most people live.
