Lowe started selling it in 1956. Before that, people played games like Poker Dice and Yacht. It’s kind of like a cousin to a game called Yatzy that’s popular in places far away like Scandinavia.

To play Yahtzee, you roll five dice. After your first roll, you pick which dice you want to keep and which ones you want to roll again, up to two more times. You do this to try and make special combinations.

There are lots of different ways to score points, like getting three dice the same, or getting a straight of numbers. Once you use a scoring spot on your paper, you can't use it again. So, you have to choose wisely!
