Where is Wimbledon?

Imagine a big, busy city called London. Wimbledon is a special part of that city, way out in the southwest! It's like a neighborhood that's big enough to have its own shops and places to live. It's about as far from the very center of London as a long bus ride. Wimbledon is split into two parts: a 'village' that feels old and cozy, and a 'town' that grew up around a train station.

A Super Old Place!

People have lived in Wimbledon for a super long time, even before castles were built! They think people lived there when it was the Iron Age, which is thousands of years ago. Back then, they built forts on the big common. Later, rich people built fancy houses there. It was a quiet place with farms and then grew bigger when a train station was built a long, long time ago.

Tennis Stars and Green Grass!

Wimbledon is MOST famous for a giant tennis tournament where players wear all white! It's called the Wimbledon Championships. It's also home to Wimbledon Common, which is a HUGE park, bigger than many football fields put together. It's a great place to run, play, and see nature. There's also a big theatre where you can watch amazing shows!

Who Lives in Wimbledon?

Lots of different people call Wimbledon home. They come from all over the world, making it a colorful place. People work in shops, in offices, and in many other jobs. It's a place where people live, work, and play, with a mix of old buildings and new ones, and lots of green spaces to enjoy.
