Marching Through the South!

During the Civil War, General Sherman led his soldiers on a very long march. They traveled all the way from Atlanta, Georgia, to the sea. This march was called the 'March to the Sea.' It was like a super long road trip, but instead of seeing cool sights, they had to be very careful and sometimes had to break things that the other side could use for fighting.

A Tough Decision Maker

Sherman was a very important general. He helped win many battles. But he also made some very tough choices. He believed that by making things difficult for the people in the South, they would stop fighting. This is called a 'scorched-earth policy,' which means destroying things like farms and railroads so the enemy can't use them. It was a controversial way to end the war.
