Wijerd Jelckama

Imagine a super brave person from a long, long time ago! That was Wijerd Jelckama. He lived in a place called Friesland. He was a big helper to a very famous leader named Pier Gerlofs Donia, who was so big they called him Grutte Pier, which means 'Big Pier'! Wijerd was like Grutte Pier's right-hand man, always ready to help him fight for their land.

Wijerd Jelckama was part of a special group called the 'Arumer Black Heap'. They were like a team of protectors! Their job was to keep their home, Friesland, safe from people who wanted to take over. These invaders came from places called Saxony and Holland. Wijerd and his friends were super brave and fought hard to protect their families and their land.

Grutte Pier was a legendary fighter, but even heroes get tired! In 1519, Grutte Pier decided to stop fighting. But the fight for Friesland wasn't over! That's when Wijerd Jelckama became the main leader of the freedom fighters. He took over from Grutte Pier and kept leading the brave soldiers to protect their home.

Wijerd Jelckama was a real hero because he was so brave and loyal. He fought for what he believed in and protected his people. Even though he lived a long time ago, his story shows us how important it is to be brave and stand up for your home and friends. He was a true warrior who helped keep his land free.
