The Wehrmacht

The Wehrmacht was the name for Germany's army, navy, and air force all put together. It was created a long time ago, after a big war, to make Germany strong again. Think of it like a giant team with three parts: the soldiers on the ground (Heer), the ships on the sea (Kriegsmarine), and the planes in the sky (Luftwaffe). They were all part of Germany's defense force, meant to protect the country.

After a tough time, Germany wanted to rebuild its army. Leaders decided to make it bigger and stronger than before. They started making lots of new weapons and training many soldiers. This was a big change, and it meant many young men were called to join the army. It was like a giant construction project, but for an army!

When World War II started, the Wehrmacht was known for its super-fast attacks, called Blitzkrieg, or 'lightning war'. They used tanks, planes, and soldiers all working together like a well-oiled machine. This helped them win many battles very quickly at the beginning of the war. It was like a race car zooming across the battlefield!

Even though the Wehrmacht was a powerful fighting force, it was also involved in very sad and terrible actions during the war. They worked with other groups and were part of many war crimes. Millions of people were hurt, and many soldiers were lost. It's important to remember that even strong armies can be part of very dark times.
