Key Facts

Water's Journey
Water constantly moves between the sky and the Earth in a cycle.
Sun's Power
The sun's heat causes water to turn into vapor and rise.
Cloud Makers
Cold air high up turns water vapor back into tiny droplets to form clouds.
Fun Fact
The water you drink today might have been in a dinosaur's puddle millions of years ago!

Water's Big Trip!

Have you ever wondered where rain comes from or where puddles go? It's all part of the water cycle! Water is always moving, like a giant, invisible merry-go-round.

It goes up into the sky, floats around as clouds, and then falls back down as rain or snow. This trip happens over and over again, making sure we always have water to drink and play in. It’s like water’s own special adventure story that never ends!

Up, Up, and Away!

The sun is like a giant heater that warms up water in lakes, rivers, and even puddles. When the water gets warm enough, it turns into a gas called water vapor and floats up into the sky. This is called evaporation! It’s like when your mom boils water for pasta, and you see steam rising. That steam is water vapor, just like what goes up to make clouds. It’s so light it can float way up high!

Cloudy with a Chance of… More Water!

Once the water vapor is high up in the sky, it gets cold. When it gets cold, the tiny water vapor bits huddle together and turn back into tiny water droplets or ice crystals. This is called condensation.

These tiny droplets join up to make clouds! Think of it like your breath on a cold window – that fog is condensation. When the clouds get too full of water, the water falls back down as rain, snow, or hail.

That's precipitation!

Back to Earth and Ready to Go Again!

When the water falls back to Earth, it can land in oceans, rivers, or on the ground. Some of it soaks into the ground to help plants grow, and some flows back into rivers that lead to the ocean. This is called collection.

Then, the sun warms it up, and the whole amazing journey starts all over again! This cycle is super important because it gives us fresh water to drink and keeps our planet healthy and green.
