Meet the Giant Pencil!

The Washington Monument looks like a giant pencil standing tall in Washington, D.C. It's made of stone, like a big LEGO tower! It's so tall, it's like stacking 100 school buses on top of each other. It was built to honor George Washington, who was the very first president of the United States. He was a super important leader who helped start the country.

A Long Time to Build!

Building this giant pencil took a really, really long time. They started way back in 1848, but then they had to stop for many years because they didn't have enough money.
