Imagine being the very first girl to travel into space! That's exactly what Valentina Tereshkova did. On June 16, 1963, she blasted off in a rocket called Vostok 6.

She flew all by herself, which was super brave! While she was up there, she circled our Earth 48 times. That's like going around your neighborhood almost 50 times, but way, way higher up!

She stayed in space for almost three whole days, looking down at our beautiful blue planet.

Before Valentina became a famous astronaut, she worked in a textile factory, making clothes. She also loved to jump out of airplanes as a skydiver! She was really good at it.
