Tungsten

Imagine a metal that's super, super strong and can get really, really hot without melting! That's tungsten! It's a shiny, silvery-white metal that's even harder than steel. It's so tough that it's used in places where other metals would just give up. Think of it like a superhero of metals, always ready for a challenge!

Tungsten doesn't just show up on its own. It's found deep inside the Earth, mixed up with other rocks. Miners have to dig it out, which is hard work! Once they find it, it takes a lot of special steps to turn the rock into the pure, strong tungsten we use. It’s like finding a hidden treasure that needs a lot of cleaning and shaping.

Tungsten is amazing because it can handle extreme heat. This is why it's perfect for the tiny wire inside light bulbs, called a filament. When electricity zips through it, the filament gets super hot and glows, making light! It's also used in tools that cut through tough stuff, like drills, because it doesn't get dull easily.

Besides light bulbs and drills, tungsten has other cool jobs. It's used in things like race car engines to make them stronger and even in some parts of airplanes. Because it's so heavy, it's also used in weights. It’s a metal that helps make our world work better and safer in many surprising ways!
