Teruel

Imagine a town tucked away in the mountains of eastern Spain. That's Teruel! It's like a secret hideout, high up in the hills, about as high as a very tall skyscraper.

Because it's so high up and a bit tricky to get to, it's stayed pretty quiet and special. It's the capital of its own province, which is like being the boss of a whole bunch of smaller towns and countryside. Guess what? Teruel is super old! Millions of years ago, dinosaurs stomped around here.

Scientists have found some of their oldest bones right near Teruel. How cool is that? The town also has amazing buildings with special decorations, like fancy patterns and shapes.

These buildings are so special that people call Teruel the 'town of Mudéjar.' It's like the town is wearing a beautiful, old-fashioned costume made of bricks and tiles. These buildings are so famous they are part of a World Heritage Site!

Teruel is famous for something super tasty: jamón serrano! It's a special kind of cured ham that people love to eat. They also make beautiful pottery there.

There's a big party called 'La Vaquilla del Ángel' where they have a bull (but it's not hurt, it's more like a parade with a bull costume!) and other fun events. Another festival is like a big play about a famous love story from long ago, with people dressing up in old clothes.

Teruel is a small city, with fewer people than many schools have students! Because it's a bit out of the way, sometimes people forget it's there. There's even a saying that 'Teruel exists!' to remind everyone it's a real and wonderful place.
