Key Facts
Where is This Giant Building?
Television Centre, or TVC for short, is a super famous building in a part of London called White City. It's like the heart of where many BBC shows were created for a long, long time. It's not right in the middle of London, but about as far west as you can go before leaving the city. Think of it as being a bit like the edge of your playground, but much, much bigger!
When Did the Magic Start?
People started working at TVC way back in 1953, even before you were born! But it officially opened its doors as the BBC's TV headquarters in 1960. For many years, it was the place where all the exciting TV magic happened. It was the main home for BBC Television until 2013, when they moved to a different building. But don't worry, it's still used for making TV shows today!
What Famous Shows Were Made Here?
TVC is so famous that it's been seen in lots of TV shows itself! It's like a celebrity building. Many of the BBC's news programs and other popular shows were made inside its walls. It was the place where live TV events and big sports matches were shown to the whole country. It's like the ultimate backstage pass to your favorite programs!
What's Inside Now?
Even though the BBC moved its main office, TVC is still a busy place. It's been updated and now has homes for people to live in, shops to visit, and offices for businesses. Best of all, it still has three big studios where new TV shows and movies are filmed. So, the TV magic continues, just in a slightly different way!
