Tanker (ship)

Imagine a ship so big it can hold as much water as 50 swimming pools! That's a tanker ship. These super-sized boats are like floating pipelines. They are designed to carry liquids safely, like oil and gas, from one place to another across the huge oceans. They are very important for bringing us the things we need every day.

Tankers have special rooms called tanks inside them. These tanks are like giant bottles that hold the liquids. The liquids are pumped into the tanks through big pipes. When the tanker reaches its destination, the liquids are pumped out the same way. It's like a giant straw moving liquids from the ship to the land!

The idea of carrying liquids in big containers on ships is quite old. But modern tanker ships really started to appear more than 100 years ago. At first, they carried oil in barrels. Then, people figured out it was much easier and safer to carry the oil directly in the ship's hull, like a giant bathtub for oil! This made transporting oil much faster.

Without tankers, we wouldn't have many of the things we use every day. They bring us the fuel that powers cars and planes, and the oil that is used to make plastics for toys and even clothes! They are like the delivery trucks of the sea, making sure important liquids get where they need to go.
