Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani

Imagine being in charge of a whole country! That's what Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani does. He is the Emir of Qatar, which is like being the king. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1980, in a city called Doha. He became the leader when he was still quite young, in 2013. He took over from his dad, who was also the leader before him. It’s a big job, like being the captain of a huge ship!

Sheikh Tamim wasn't always the leader. First, he had to become the 'heir apparent.' That means he was chosen to be the next leader. This happened in 2003.

Before that, his older brother was supposed to be the leader. But his brother decided he didn't want to be the leader anymore, so Sheikh Tamim got the special job. It’s like when you’re picked to be the line leader in class, but for a whole country!

As the Emir, Sheikh Tamim makes important decisions for Qatar. He helps his country grow and makes sure everyone is looked after. He meets with other leaders from around the world to talk about big ideas. Think of him as the main decision-maker for his home. He is also the fourth son of his father, the former Emir, and his mom, Sheikha Moza. Sheikha Moza is very famous too!

Sheikh Tamim comes from a very special family. His dad was the Emir before him, and his mom, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, is known for being very smart and helping with education. Sheikh Tamim has many brothers and sisters. He became the heir when he was 23 years old. This means he was preparing for his big role for many years. It’s like practicing for a big game before you actually play it.
