The story of Swan Lake was first told a long, long time ago, based on old folk tales. A famous composer named Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote the amazing music for it between 1875 and 1876. The very first time people saw this ballet was in Moscow, Russia, in 1877. It was a brand new story then, and now it's one of the most popular ballets in the whole world!
Meet the Swan Princess!
The main character in Swan Lake is Princess Odette. She's a beautiful princess who is cursed by a wicked sorcerer named Von Rothbart. He turns her into a swan during the day! She can only turn back into a human at night. She lives by a magical lake, and her only hope is true love. It's a story about magic, love, and overcoming bad guys.
Dancing Stars of the Show!
Swan Lake is famous for its incredible dancing. The dancers pretend to be swans, moving gracefully across the stage. One of the most famous parts is the 'Dance of the Little Swans,' where four dancers hold hands and hop together, looking like a group of baby swans. There's also a very exciting dance called the 'Black Swan pas de deux' that is super dramatic and shows off amazing ballet skills.
