Key Facts
Where is Surbiton?
Imagine a place in London, England, that’s like a cozy town but part of a big city! Surbiton is in the southwest of London, not too far from a super famous river called the River Thames. It's about as far from the very center of London as a long car ride might be.
It used to be in a different county called Surrey, but now it's part of a bigger area called Greater London. Think of it like moving from one classroom to another in a giant school!
A Town Built on a Train Track!
Surbiton wasn't always called Surbiton! A long, long time ago, when trains were new and exciting, people built a railway station there. They even called the area 'Kingston-upon-Railway' because it was near a town called Kingston.
Soon, houses and shops popped up around the train station, and the name Surbiton started to be used. It grew because the train made it easy for people to travel to and from London.
Homes of All Shapes and Sizes!
When you visit Surbiton, you'll see all sorts of buildings. There are big, fancy houses from when the trains first arrived, looking like they belong in a storybook. You'll also see buildings with cool, curvy designs from a style called Art Deco, which was popular a long time ago.
And of course, there are lots of regular houses where families live, just like yours! It’s a mix of old and new, all living together.
Lots of People Live Here!
Surbiton is a busy place with many people calling it home. Imagine a town filled with over 45,000 people – that’s a lot of friends to make! It’s a pretty big neighborhood, covering an area that’s about the size of 175 football fields. These people live in all the different houses and apartments, go to school, and work in and around London. It’s a lively community by the river.
