Three-quarters of it is covered in water, which is like having a huge swimming pool and a lake all in one. There's a big hill called Longevity Hill, and it's about as tall as a 20-story building! All the water and hills make it a beautiful place to explore.

Emperors' Secret Hideaway

Long, long ago, emperors and their families used to come here to get away from the busy city. It was their special summer vacation spot! They had beautiful buildings to live in and amazing gardens to walk through. It’s like having a secret castle where you can play and relax away from everyone else.

Bridges and Boats and Buildings, Oh My!

One of the coolest things is the Seventeen Hole Bridge. It looks like a long, wavy line with lots of arches, perfect for walking across the water. There are over 3,000 ancient buildings here, which is more buildings than you can count in a whole year at school! They hold over 40,000 treasures from history.

A World Treasure!

Because the Summer Palace is so special and beautiful, people from all over the world decided it's a World Heritage Site. That means it's protected and everyone agrees it's a masterpiece of garden design. It's a place where nature and amazing buildings work together to look super pretty.
