Who Was This Awesome Guy?

Imagine a person who was good at EVERYTHING! That was Su Song. He lived a super long time ago, during China's Song Dynasty. He wasn't just a regular person; he was a scientist, an engineer, and even a government helper! He loved figuring out how things worked and inventing new stuff. He was like a superhero of smarts!

The Giant Clock That Touched the Sky!

Su Song built a giant clock tower in a city called Kaifeng. This clock was HUGE, maybe as tall as a big tree! It had a special part that made it tick and tock, like a super-advanced grandfather clock. It even had little figures that popped out to show the time. It was one of the most amazing machines ever built back then!

What Made His Clock So Special?

His clock tower had a secret weapon: a chain that went round and round, like a bicycle chain, but way older! This 'celestial ladder' helped power the clock. It was the first time anyone had used a chain like this to make a clock work. Plus, it had 133 little clock characters that would tell you the time with bells and sounds. Wow!

More Than Just Clocks!

Su Song didn't just build clocks. He also drew maps of the stars and the Earth, like a super-powered mapmaker! He wrote a book about all his amazing clock inventions so others could learn. He was also interested in plants, animals, and even how to make metal. He was a true genius who loved to learn and share his knowledge.
