SS Arandora Star

The SS Arandora Star was a super big ship that started its life in 1927. It was like a floating hotel that could also carry yummy food that needed to stay cold, like fruit and meat. Think of it as a giant, fancy bus for the ocean!

It was built in Britain and was part of the Blue Star Line, which means it had a blue star on its side. This ship was built to travel far and wide across the big blue sea.

But then, a big war started, and the ship had to do a very important, but dangerous, job. It was used to carry soldiers, like a super-fast taxi for the army. In 1940, the Arandora Star was given a very serious task. It had to take people who were considered enemies during the war to Canada. Sadly, on July 2nd, 1940, while sailing near Ireland, a German submarine attacked the ship.

The Arandora Star sank very quickly. It was a terrible accident, and sadly, 805 people lost their lives that day. It's a reminder of how dangerous the seas can be during wartime.
