Sirimavo Bandaranaike

Sirimavo Bandaranaike was a super important person from a country called Sri Lanka. She was so special because in 1960, she became the world's very first woman prime minister! That means she was the top leader of her country, like a president or a queen, but she was elected! She was a kind and strong leader who cared a lot about the people in her country, especially women and girls.

Sirimavo's husband was also a leader, but sadly, he was no longer able to be prime minister. After he passed away, her political party asked her to step up and lead them. She said yes!
