Sinn Féin

Sinn Féin is a special group in Ireland that helps decide how things should be run. Their name, Sinn Féin, means 'We Ourselves' in the Irish language. It's like saying 'We want to decide for ourselves!' They are a political party, which means they are like a team that tries to win elections to make important choices for people.

They work in both the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland, which are parts of the island of Ireland.

Sinn Féin started way back in 1905, which is over 100 years ago! That's older than your grandparents' grandparents! A man named Arthur Griffith started it.

Back then, Ireland was part of the United Kingdom, and Sinn Féin wanted Ireland to be its own country. They helped start a new Irish government and were involved in a big fight called the Irish War of Independence. Over many years, the group changed and sometimes became smaller, but it always kept trying to have a say.

Sinn Féin is important because they help people have a say in their government. They believe in making decisions together and working for everyone. They were part of a big effort to bring peace to Northern Ireland, which was a very difficult time.

Now, they are a big part of the government in Northern Ireland, and they also have many people working in the government of the Republic of Ireland. They want to make sure everyone's voice is heard.

Sinn Féin plays the game of politics by trying to get elected. People vote for them, and if they get enough votes, they get to sit in special rooms called parliaments. They used to not sit in some of these rooms even if they won, which is called abstentionism, but now they do.
