Where the Senate Hangs Out!

The Senate of Italy is like a special meeting room for grown-ups in a beautiful old building called Palazzo Madama, right in the city of Rome. Rome is the capital, which is like the main city of Italy. Italy is a country shaped like a boot kicking a ball! The Senate is part of the Italian Parliament, which is like the country's big decision-making team.

The Senate's Super Team!

The Senate has a team of people called Senators. There are 200 elected Senators, which is like having 200 students chosen to represent their classes! Some Senators are chosen because they are super wise and get to be Senators for their whole lives. These Senators are like the teachers who have been at school the longest and know everything!

Making Big Choices Together!

The Senate works with another group called the Chamber of Deputies. They are like two teams that have to agree on rules for Italy. They both have to do the same jobs, but they do them separately, like two friends playing the same game but on different sides of the playground. This makes sure everything is fair!

A Long, Long Time Ago!

The Senate in Italy has been around for a very, very long time! It started in 1848, which is even before your grandparents were born, and maybe even before your great-great-grandparents were born! It was called the Subalpine Senate back then. It's like a very old tree that keeps growing new branches but has a strong, old trunk.
