Imagine a singer who shone as brightly as a disco ball! That was Selena. She was born on April 16, 1971, and became super famous for her amazing voice and dazzling outfits. People called her the 'Queen of Tejano Music' because she sang a special kind of music that made everyone want to dance. She was so cool that some people even called her the 'Tejano Madonna' because of her awesome clothes!

Selena didn't start singing alone. She was part of a family band called 'Selena y Los Dinos,' which means 'Selena and the Dinosaurs'! Her brother, A.B., played music and wrote songs, and her sister, Suzette, played the drums. They started playing music when they were kids, and even though some places wouldn't let them play at first because Tejano music was mostly for boys, they kept singing!

Selena made so many hit songs that people still love today. One of her most famous songs is 'Como la Flor,' which means 'Like a Flower.' It's a beautiful song that tells a story. Her album 'Live!' even won a Grammy Award, which is like a super-duper award for music! She also had an album called 'Amor Prohibido' that sold tons of copies and helped make Tejano music popular everywhere.

Sadly, Selena's life was cut short when she was 23 years old. But her music and her spirit live on! After she passed away, a special day was created just for her: Selena Day in Texas!

Her last album came out after she was gone and became number one on the music charts. A movie was even made about her life, starring a famous actress named Jennifer Lopez, which helped even more people discover Selena's amazing music.
