Sally Jewell

Imagine someone who loves playing outside so much, they decided to help protect all the amazing parks and wild places for everyone! That's Sally Jewell! She was born in a big city called London, but when she was just three years old, her family moved to the United States.

She grew up in a beautiful place called Washington, where she probably spent lots of time hiking and exploring. Sally is like a superhero for nature!

Before Sally became a leader in the government, she had a super interesting job. She worked for a company called REI, which sells all sorts of cool gear for camping, hiking, and exploring. She was so good at her job that she became the boss of the whole company!

Think of it like being the captain of a huge ship, making sure everyone had what they needed for an adventure. She loved the outdoors so much, she wanted to make sure REI helped protect the places where people love to play.

Because Sally cared so much about nature and was so good at leading, the President of the United States asked her to do a very special job. She became the Secretary of the Interior. This means she was in charge of looking after all of America's national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges.

It’s like being the ultimate park ranger for the whole country, making sure these beautiful places are safe and healthy for animals and people for a long, long time.

Sally Jewell is known for her love of the outdoors and for being a great leader. She helped make sure that companies like REI thought about protecting the environment. Then, as Secretary of the Interior, she made big decisions about how to take care of places like Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon.
