Robert Grosseteste

Robert Grosseteste was born around the year 1170. That's almost 850 years ago! He was so smart that people in Oxford, a famous university town, wanted him to teach there.

He became a teacher and a thinker, exploring all sorts of amazing questions. He loved learning about stars, light, and how things move. He was like a scientist before we even had the word 'scientist'!

People thought he was so special that after he died, they wanted to call him a saint.
