Randstad: The Big City Ring!

The Randstad is like a giant, curved necklace of cities in the Netherlands, a country famous for its windmills and tulips! It's in the western part of the country. Think of it as a big hug made of towns and cities. It's not just one city, but lots of them all connected, like beads on a string. Almost half of all the people in the Netherlands live in the Randstad! That's about 8.4 million people. The Randstad has some super important places! It has the Port of Rotterdam, which is one of the busiest ports in the whole world. Ships from everywhere come here! The name Randstad means 'Rim City' or 'Edge City'. It got this name because it's shaped like a ring around a big, green farming area in the middle. The four biggest cities in the Netherlands – Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht – are all part of this ring.
