What's a Raindrop?

Imagine tiny little water beads falling from fluffy clouds! That's rainwater. It’s made when water from lakes, rivers, and even puddles gets warm and floats up into the sky as invisible steam.

Then, it cools down and turns back into tiny water droplets that join together to make clouds. When the clouds get too full, the water falls back down as rain! It’s like the sky is giving the Earth a big drink.

How Does Rain Happen?

It all starts with the sun! The sun warms up water on Earth, like in oceans and lakes. This warm water turns into a gas called water vapor and floats up, up, up into the sky.

High up, it gets cold, and the vapor turns back into tiny water droplets or ice crystals. These little bits stick together to form clouds. When the clouds get heavy with water, the droplets fall as rain.

It’s a never-ending water journey!

Why Rain is Super Important!

Rain is like a superhero for our planet! It helps plants grow tall and strong, giving us yummy fruits and vegetables. It fills up rivers and lakes, which are homes for fish and places we can swim. Rain also cleans the air, making it fresh to breathe. Without rain, everything would get very dry, and it would be hard for us and animals to live. So, thank you, rain!

Catching Rain for Fun!

People have learned to catch rainwater to use it. They put big containers, like barrels, under the drips from their roofs. This collected water can be used to water gardens or wash cars. It’s a smart way to save water! Sometimes, special systems are built to collect even more rainwater, which can help save water from rivers and lakes for when it doesn't rain for a long time.
