Who Was This Amazing Queen?

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1900! She grew up to marry a prince named Albert, who later became King George VI. This made her a Queen! She was Queen of the United Kingdom for many years. She was also a mom to another future Queen, Elizabeth II. She was known for always having a big smile and being very kind to everyone she met. She loved her country very much.

A Royal Surprise!

One day, a big surprise happened! Her husband's older brother, the King, decided he didn't want to be King anymore. So, Prince Albert had to become King George VI very suddenly!

This meant Elizabeth, who was a Duchess, suddenly became a Queen. It was a huge change, like going from being a student to being the principal overnight! She had to learn a lot of new things very quickly, but she was ready.

A Queen During Wartime

When a big war called World War II happened, Queen Elizabeth was a huge comfort to people. Even though things were scary, she stayed strong and cheerful. She and the King even stayed in their home when bombs were falling nearby!

This showed everyone that they were brave and together. Her happy spirit helped everyone feel a little bit better during those tough times. She was like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

A Queen for a Very Long Time!

Queen Elizabeth lived to be 101 years old! That's older than your grandparents and even your great-grandparents! After her husband, the King, passed away, she was called the Queen Mother. She was still very popular and loved by many people. She kept doing important royal jobs until she was very, very old. She was a special lady who was loved by her family and her country for her whole long life.
