Where is This Royal House?

Buckingham Palace is a super famous building in London, England. It's like the main office for the King of the United Kingdom! It's in a busy part of the city called Westminster. Lots of important royal parties and big national events happen here. It's a special place for everyone in Britain to celebrate happy times or feel sad together.

From a Big House to a Palace!

This palace wasn't always so grand. It started as a big house called Buckingham House, built over 300 years ago for a Duke. Later, a King named George III bought it for his wife, Queen Charlotte, and it became known as The Queen's House. Over many years, builders added more parts, making it much bigger, until Queen Victoria made it her home in 1837.

The Royal Family's Awesome Home

Buckingham Palace has a whopping 775 rooms! That's more rooms than in your whole school! It also has the biggest private garden in London, which is like a giant backyard for the royal family. Sometimes, the King and Queen let people visit the fancy rooms called State Rooms, especially in the summer when they are away.

Special Palace Moments

You might have seen pictures of the royal family waving from a special balcony at Buckingham Palace. This is where they appear to wave to big crowds on important days. During World War II, a bomb hit the palace and destroyed a chapel, but a new art gallery was built there later, filled with amazing paintings and treasures.
