Po (river)

The Po River is Italy's longest river, like a giant watery snake slithering across the country! It starts high up in the snowy Cottian Alps mountains. Think of it like a tiny trickle of water from a stony hillside, called Pian del Re.

This little trickle grows and grows, collecting water from other streams, until it becomes a big, powerful river that flows all the way to the sparkly Adriatic Sea. It's so long, it's like driving a car from your house to a faraway city!

This amazing river is super important for the land it flows through, called the Po Valley. It brings water for farms to grow yummy food like corn and rice. It also helps connect cities, like a superhighway for boats!

Some cities it flows through are Turin and Ferrara. It's so big that it has to be kept in its place with special walls called embankments, like a giant bathtub that needs strong sides so the water doesn't spill out!

As the Po River gets close to the sea, it splits into many smaller rivers, like fingers spreading out. This is called a delta, and it's a super cool place! It's near a city called Venice, famous for its canals.

The delta is a special home for lots of birds and fish. It even has a part that's famous for catching yummy eels. This watery maze is a unique place where the river says goodbye to the land and hello to the sea.
