Parliament House is in a city called Wellington, right on a street called Lambton Quay. Imagine a busy street in a big town, that's where it is! Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand, which means it's the most important city for the country's government.
The building stands tall, ready for people to visit and learn about how New Zealand is run. It's a very important spot in the heart of the city.
A Building with a Big Story!
This building wasn't always here! A long, long time ago, there was another Parliament building, but sadly, it burned down in a fire in 1907. So, they decided to build a new one, and they started building it between 1914 and 1922.
That's a super long time ago, even before your grandparents were born! Even though it wasn't finished, people started using it in 1918. It's like moving into a house before all the rooms are painted!
Super Strong and Super Safe!
Wellington is known for earthquakes, so the Parliament House had to be made extra strong! Between 1991 and 1995, they did a lot of work to make sure it could handle any shakes. They also tidied it up and made it look even better. This building is so special that it's protected, like a treasure! It's open almost every day, so lots of people get to see it and learn about it.
What Happens Inside?
Inside Parliament House, there's a special room where people talk about important things for the country. This is called the debating chamber. There are also offices for the Speaker, who is like the boss of the room, and places where smaller groups can meet to discuss things.
It's a busy place where decisions are made that affect everyone in New Zealand. It's also a place for visitors to come and see!
