Orca

Orcas, or killer whales, are the biggest members of the dolphin family! They are black and white and have a tall fin on their back that can be as tall as a grown-up! These amazing animals are super smart and live in oceans all around the world. They are known for being powerful hunters and amazing swimmers, traveling in family groups called pods.

You can find orcas almost everywhere in the ocean, from the chilly Arctic and Antarctic waters to warmer seas near the equator. They love to swim in coastal areas and also venture out into the deep, open ocean. Different groups of orcas, called 'ecotypes,' prefer different places and eat different foods, like special neighborhoods for different families!

Orcas are carnivores, which means they only eat meat! Their diet is super varied. Some orcas love to eat fish, like salmon. Others are brave enough to hunt bigger animals like seals, sea lions, and even other whales! They are such clever hunters that they work together in their pods to catch their meals. It's like a team sport in the ocean!

Orcas live in close-knit family groups called pods, led by older females. These pods can stay together for many years, and the babies learn everything from their moms and other family members. Orcas can live for a really long time, sometimes as long as humans! Female orcas can live for 50 to 80 years, and males can live for 30 to 50 years.
