Where the Big River Flows!

Imagine a city right next to a super wide river called the Missouri River. That's Omaha! It's in the middle of the United States, like a big playground in the country. It's not too far from where the Platte River joins the Missouri. Omaha is a busy place, with lots of people living there. It's the biggest city in the whole state of Nebraska, which is shaped like a rectangle!

Once Upon a Time in Omaha

A long, long time ago, in 1854, people called speculators came to this spot by the river. They wanted to build a town. They called it Omaha, and it was like a 'Gateway to the West' because people traveled through it to explore new places. Later, Omaha even had a giant World's Fair where people showed off amazing things from all over! It was a super important stop for trains and boats.

Inventors' Paradise!

Guess what? Omaha is where some really neat things were invented! They invented the yummy Reuben sandwich, and even cake mix to make baking easier. They also invented the first ski lift in the United States, which helps people go up mountains! And have you ever heard of a TV dinner? That was invented in Omaha too, making mealtime super quick!

Fun Places to See!

Omaha has a super cool zoo called the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, which is famous for its amazing animals and giant indoor desert. There's also a fun area called the Old Market with old buildings and shops, and a museum called the Durham Museum. Every year, college baseball teams come to Omaha for the College World Series, which is a big baseball tournament!
