Meet the Giant House!

Nottoway Plantation was a super-duper big house in Louisiana, like a giant's home! It was built a long, long time ago, in 1859. This house was so enormous, it had 53,000 square feet of space inside. That's bigger than a whole bunch of classrooms put together! It was designed to look grand and fancy, like something from a fairy tale.

A House Fit for a King (Almost!)

This amazing house was built for a man named John Hampden Randolph. He wanted a home that was the biggest and best. It was so large, it was the second biggest plantation house ever built in the Southern United States. Think of it like having the biggest playground slide on the block, but it was a whole house!

What Happened to the Giant House?

Sadly, this incredible house didn't last forever. In 2025, a big fire happened, and the main house was lost. But don't worry, not everything was gone! Some of the smaller buildings and parts of the old plantation are still there, like old friends who stayed behind. They help us remember what Nottoway Plantation used to be like.

What's Left to See?

Even though the giant house is gone, there are still cool things to discover at Nottoway Plantation. There are other historic buildings that survived the fire. These old structures are like puzzle pieces that help us learn about the past. They tell stories of the people who lived and worked there a long time ago.
