Who Are the Nepalis?

Nepalis are the wonderful people who are citizens of the country called Nepal. Imagine your school has kids from different towns; Nepal is like that, but it's a whole country! Being Nepali means you have Nepali citizenship, like a special ID card for your country. It's not just about where you live, but about being officially part of Nepal. They are the permanent residents of this beautiful land.

A Land of Many Voices!

Nepal is like a giant party with people speaking lots of different languages! There are over 128 languages spoken there, which is more than you can count on your fingers and toes. Even though they speak different languages, they are all Nepalis if they have Nepali citizenship.

It's like having friends who speak English, Spanish, or French, but you all go to the same school and are part of the same community.

Where Do They Live?

Most Nepalis live in a place called Bagmati Province. This province is super busy, like a playground at recess! It has about 20.97 percent of all the people in Nepal. That means almost one out of every five people in Nepal lives in this one area. It's a very popular place to call home for many Nepalis.

More Than Just One Kind of Nepali

It's important to know that not everyone who has roots in Nepal or speaks a Nepali language is a Nepali citizen. Some people might have been born in Nepal but now live in another country and have different citizenship. They might still love Nepal and speak the language, but the word 'Nepali' usually means someone with official Nepali citizenship.
