Where the Big Decisions Happen!

Switzerland is a country in Europe, like a puzzle piece with mountains and lakes. The National Council is a special group that helps run Switzerland. They meet in a beautiful building called the Federal Palace, which is in the city of Bern. Think of Bern as the main office for the whole country!

Choosing the Super Helpers!

Every four years, grown-up citizens in Switzerland get to vote for the people who will be on the National Council. These chosen people are called National Councillors. There are 200 of them! It's like picking your favorite players for a big team, but for running the country.

A Team for Everyone!

The National Council has 200 members, and they are chosen from different parts of Switzerland called cantons. Each canton gets a certain number of councillors based on how many people live there. This makes sure everyone's voice can be heard, no matter where they live in the country.

Two Houses Working Together!

The National Council is one of two important groups that make laws in Switzerland. The other group is called the Council of States. These two groups have the same power, like two captains of a team who both have to agree on the game plan. They both meet in the same big building!
